Unified Creativity and Community:
Art, Music, and April Showers Expand Inclusion
These courses were designed to create intentional,
inclusive spaces where students of all abilities could
create, collaborate, perform, and express themselves
together. Rather than simply adding students into
existing classes, Unified Art and Unified Music were
built as shared learning experiences where every
student contributes, every strength is valued, and
every participant belongs.
Teachers say it has changed their perspective on
teaching by encouraging them to slow down, be more
intentional, and rethink what success looks like in the
art room. They also observed that students built new
peer connections and developed empathy, patience,
communication skills, and a deeper appreciation for
different ways of thinking.
Unified Music brought that same spirit of belonging into performance, creative exploration, and group
music-making. Students stepped outside their comfort zones, supported one another, and built
genuine relationships while developing not only musical skills, but also communication, teamwork,
empathy, and confidence. Together, Unified Art and Unified Music show that creativity thrives when
students feel seen, valued, and included.
